Cork Mental Health Association supports people with mental illnesses through building and managing Social Housing Projects in Cork City & County.Following an application to the Department of the Environment,under the Capital Assistance Scheme, CMHA were successfully granted funding to develop our latest Social Housing Project in Kanturk.
Having conducted a needs assessment and entered a consultation process with all involved, the design and location of the project was agreed upon.It contains a community residence for 14 people and there are also 4 single units built for people that will live independently in the community.This

Duhallow Branch
Following meetings with interested people Cork Mental Health Association is delighted to announce the formation of a new branch of the Association in the Duhallow Area. The Duhallow Branch
of Cork Mental Health Association was established in August 2005 with Chairperson: Ms. Fidelma O'Connor, Treasurer:Mr. Eamonn Colgan and Secretary: Mr. Padraig Cremin. The group set up as a local support to the soon to be opened Social Housing Development in Kanturk.
Prior to the opening of this Housing Project, the Committee will hold an open evening for neighbours and the local community.
Proposed Development in Bantry
A Social Housing Project for Bantry is now at formal submission stage. The proposal is to develop a housing project of mixed housing units, with 3 two bedded bungalow type houses for independent living, and a ten bedded house where some support will be provided. Each resident of the ten bed house will have their own bedroom and en-suite, with communal kitchen, dining area and lounge area.
South Lee
The HSE have recently carried out research in the South Lee Catchment Area and have identified priority housing needs of mental health service users. Togher/Ballyphehane has been identified as an area of particular need. Cork Mental Health Association has begun meeting with the South Lee Mental Health Services in an effort to obtain funds for social housing in this area.
Midleton
The Midleton Branch of Cork Mental Health Association has met with Midleton Urban District Council regarding accessing Department of Environment funding for Social Housing for people with a mental health difficulty in the Midleton Area. The Branch is now actively looking at suitable housing in the Midleton Area.
